In an effort to promote tourism and showcase the cultural richness of the Jhang district, the district administration is organizing the inaugural Jhang Desert Rally alongside a three-day cultural festival. This initiative is under the esteemed vision of Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Promoting Cultural Identity

During a press conference held at the rally's starting point, Deputy Commissioner Jhang, Babar Sahib Din, outlined the event's scope and significance. He emphasized that the rally would include various competitive sectors such as Women’s, Stock, and Veterans categories, in addition to thrilling bike racing. Beyond being a racing event, it serves as a poignant opportunity to share Jhang’s unique identity, desert landscapes, and rich cultural heritage with tourists from Pakistan and beyond.

Showcasing the Thal Region

The deputy commissioner highlighted Jhang's distinct identity, derived from its extensive desert areas that encompass approximately 6,000 square kilometers of the Thal region, along with a wealth of historical and cultural elements. He expressed the district administration's commitment to presenting Jhang as an emerging tourism destination by showcasing these unique features on a larger platform.

Participation and Activities

The event is expected to attract around 100 of Pakistan's most skilled drivers and riders, as well as international tourists. Arrangements for a food court and residential camping facilities will enhance the experience for both participants and visitors.

The rally will involve an exhilarating 95-kilometer desert track, merging adventure with the natural beauty of the Thal region. Additionally, a variety of cultural and recreational activities will entertain spectators throughout the festival, including desert rally racing, traditional sports, folk music performances, horse riding, kabaddi, and a vibrant musical night.

Cultural Heritage on Display

These planned activities aim to highlight Jhang’s local culture, traditional sports, and artistic traditions, providing visitors with an immersive experience of the district's desert landscape and historical heritage. Prominent figures in attendance at the press conference included former Members of the Provincial Assembly Faisal Hayat Jaboana, Sultan Sikandar Bharwana, Rashida Yaqoob Sheikh, and Khalid Ghani, along with local officials and civil society representatives.
