Security forces conducted successful intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), resulting in the elimination of 30 terrorists affiliated with the Indian proxy group Fitna al-Khawarij. This comprehensive military effort reflects the ongoing commitment to enhance security in the region and combat terrorism.

Intelligence-based operations: Details of the Operations

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a targeted operation in the Mohmand district conducted from November 18 to 19 resulted in the deaths of four terrorists. Additionally, a separate encounter in the Lakki Marwat district led to the neutralization of two more khawarij operatives.

In the Tank district, security forces successfully eliminated another member of the Fitna al-Khawarij. Notably, a significant operation in the Kurram district resulted in the deaths of 12 terrorists after a fierce exchange of gunfire on November 19. Following that, intelligence indicated the presence of another group of militants, leading to an additional operation that neutralized 11 more terrorists.

Ongoing Security Efforts

The military's focus on sanitization operations remains pivotal, as authorities seek to eliminate any remaining elements of India-backed terrorism in the area. These operations coincide with the intensified efforts of the armed forces under the 'Azm-e-Istehkam' operation, aimed at eradicating the threat of terrorism.

Rise in Terrorist Activity

The increase in terrorist attacks in Pakistan has been alarming, particularly in KP and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban assumed power in 2021. A recent police report highlighted over 600 terror incidents in KP alone during the first eight months of 2025, resulting in the martyrdom of 79 police personnel and 138 civilians. Moreover, violence has spread to urban centers, including a suicide bombing in Islamabad on November 11 that claimed the lives of 12 individuals, including lawyers and petitioners.

Calls for Regional Cooperation

In response to the escalating violence, Islamabad has urged both Kabul and the international community to address the existence of terrorist safe havens in Afghanistan, particularly those associated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Despite Pakistan’s proactive engagement with the Taliban regime on cross-border terrorism concerns, there has been limited response from Kabul. Recent talks mediated by Qatar and Turkiye aimed at achieving regional peace concluded without resolution, largely attributed to the Taliban's unyielding positions.

Support for Pakistan's stance on the issue of terrorism emanating from Afghanistan was echoed by Sandra Jensen Landi, Denmark's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN and chair of the UN Security Council's Daesh and Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee. In her report to the UNSC, she identified the TTP as a significant threat operating from Afghan territory, underscoring the group’s logistical and material support from the Afghan authorities.
