In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Pakistan Navy has intercepted and confiscated methamphetamine (ICE) worth an estimated $130 million in the Arabian Sea. This achievement marks a pivotal moment in the nation’s ongoing battle against illicit narcotics.
Pakistan Navy Seizes Methamphetamine: Operation Overview
The Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Tabuk targeted a suspicious stateless dhow during a coordinated operation in the Arabian Sea. According to a statement from the Pakistan Navy Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR), over 2,000 kilograms of ICE were seized from the vessel.
This operation was conducted as part of the Regional Maritime Security Patrol (RMSP), in collaboration with the Saudi-led Combined Task Force 150 (CTF-150) and the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF).
Recent Successes
The successful interception by PNS Tabuk represents the third consecutive drug bust executed by Pakistan Navy vessels within the last two months. Prior to this, PNS Yarmook conducted two operations, seizing drugs valued at approximately $1 billion. The CMF released a statement detailing that the PNS Yarmook operation netted several tons of ICE and a smaller quantity of cocaine. Commodore Fahad Aljoiad, the Royal Saudi Naval Forces officer commanding the CMF task force, described this as “one of the most successful narcotics seizures for CMF.”
The United States Central Command also commended the Pakistan Navy’s efforts, highlighting their significant impact on disrupting the trafficking of drugs and weapons in the region.
Commitment to Maritime Security
The DGPR Navy spokesperson emphasized the importance of these counter-narcotics operations, expressing that they demonstrate the navy's “enduring resolve and unwavering commitment against illicit trafficking at sea.” The spokesperson added that the scale and execution of this operation reflect both the professionalism of the Pakistan Navy and the efficacy of multinational cooperation under the CMF.
Pakistan remains devoted to safeguarding its national maritime interests, with unwavering adherence to the principles outlined by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and a broader commitment to enhancing global maritime security.
