In an effort to enhance food safety standards, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) enforcement team conducted a rigorous operation targeting food safety violators in Rasul Park, Kot Lakhpat, Nishter Town, and surrounding areas. The initiative resulted in the sealing of two food units and the lodging of a First Information Report (FIR) against non-compliant operations, alongside imposing fines totaling Rs 115,000 on eight food establishments.
Seizures and Discarded Items
The enforcement team uncovered alarming health hazards during the operation, discarding over 1,000 kilograms of fungus-infested cheese, 800 litres of substandard oil, 600 kilograms of unsafe pakoras, and 150 litres of contaminated milk. The actions taken are part of the PFA's ongoing commitment to ensuring food safety for the community.
Details of the Operation
During the enforcement operation, teams raided 11 food units, leading to the seizure of two mixing machines, two cauldrons, seven plastic drums, a weighing scale, color-cutting equipment, and various drums. Notably, an FIR was lodged against a local milk shop after its milk sample failed laboratory testing. Additionally, a nimco factory was sealed following the discovery of substandard oil and unsafe pakoras on the premises.
Health and Safety Concerns
The spokesperson for the PFA reported that a well-known ice cream shop was also sealed because all six samples taken from the facility failed safety testing. Inspections revealed poor sanitation conditions, a foul-smelling environment, and a serious insect infestation. Furthermore, it was noted that employees at these facilities lacked mandatory medical screenings and food safety training certifications.
Continued Commitment to Food Safety
The PFA remains steadfast in its commitment to conducting enforcement operations against substandard and unsafe food products, ensuring the provision of safe and quality food for citizens. The authority's actions reflect a broader strategy to mitigate public health risks associated with food consumption.
