RAWALPINDI: In a significant operation against terrorism, security forces have neutralized 23 Indian proxy terrorists affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Kurram district. As reported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on November 20, these operations occurred on November 19, targeting identified militant groups in the region.
Indian proxy terrorists: Key Details of the Operation
The ISPR detailed that the first phase of the operation resulted in the elimination of 12 terrorists following an intense exchange of fire. This engagement was executed based on credible intelligence regarding the presence of militants in the area.
Subsequently, a second intelligence-based operation led to the neutralization of an additional 11 terrorists, as noted in the statement from the military's media wing. The ISPR affirmed that ongoing sanitization operations are being conducted to eradicate any remaining terrorist threats in the district.
Commitment to Counterterrorism
The statement further emphasized Pakistan's steadfast commitment to combatting foreign-sponsored terrorism under the counterterrorism vision “Azm e Istehkam,” as endorsed by the federal apex committee's National Action Plan. The recent military actions align with a broader campaign aimed at decisively addressing the resurgence of terrorist activities in the region.
Context of Recent Operations
These developments follow a series of anti-terrorism operations nationwide that have resulted in the neutralization of numerous terrorists in recent weeks. On November 19, the ISPR reported the elimination of four terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between November 17 and 18, including incidents in Bajaur and Dera Ismail Khan. Previous operations from November 16 to 17 saw the neutralization of 23 militants in targeted operations in Bajaur and Bannu.
The urgency of these operations reflects a troubling increase in terrorist activities in Pakistan, highlighted by a recent suicide blast at Islamabad's Judicial Complex on November 11, which resulted in 12 fatalities and at least 36 injuries, affecting both lawyers and petitioners.
Ongoing Security Challenges
Since the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has faced a rise in cross-border terrorism, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which have been significantly impacted by these attacks. A police report indicated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone recorded over 600 terrorist incidents in the first eight months of 2025, resulting in the deaths of 79 police personnel and 138 civilians.
In light of these challenges, Pakistan continues to call on the Afghan Taliban to adhere to the commitments made in the 2020 Doha Agreement, particularly the pledge not to use their territory for launching attacks against other countries.
