The tragic explosion at a firecracker factory in Hyderabad, which occurred on November 15, 2025, has resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals, following the confirmation of an additional fatality by the medical superintendent of Civil Hospital Hyderabad. The incident has raised significant concerns regarding workplace safety and regulatory compliance in the region.

Hyderabad firecracker factory explosion: Details of the Incident

Rescue teams are tirelessly working through the debris of the collapsed factory located in Latifabad, Hyderabad, where the blast occurred. In addition to the casualties, over a dozen workers sustained injuries during the explosion.

Hyderabad Mayor Kashif Ali Shoro has pledged to take strict action against those responsible for operating the illegal firecracker facility without adequate safety measures. "Action against illegal factories must be taken," he stated during his visit to the disaster site.

Worker Testimonies

One injured worker, Anas, who spoke to Geo News from his hospital bed, revealed that the facility functioned as both a production site and a storage area, with manufacturing taking place on the ground floor. He shared, "We had been working there for four to five years," emphasizing that the unit possessed a license and was deliberately situated away from residential neighborhoods. Anas noted that over 10 workers were present at the time of the explosion.

Government Response

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has demanded a comprehensive report on the incident, along with an immediate audit of safety protocols at the factory. He stated that strict accountability measures will be enforced against those deemed responsible, underlining that negligence in ensuring worker safety will not be tolerated.

Previous Incidents

This explosion follows a similar incident in August at a firecracker warehouse in Karachi's Saddar area, where six lives were lost and several others were injured. The FIR from that case indicated that the suspects had recklessly stockpiled large quantities of fireworks without proper precautions, leading to significant casualties and property damage. The report further noted that one suspect was injured in that blast while another managed to escape the scene in a vehicle.

The series of tragic accidents highlights the urgent need for enforcing safety regulations within hazardous industries to protect workers and prevent future disasters.
