In a significant statement reflecting the empowerment of women in Sindh, Sharjeel Memon, the Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, announced a strong warning against male riders of pink scooties during a distribution ceremony in Mirpurkhas. He emphasized the commitment of the Pakistan Army and noted that the efforts of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir against India exemplify the nation's resilience.
Pink scooties: Emphasis on Women's Empowerment
Addressing attendees at the ceremony focused on the distribution of free pink scooties, Minister Memon highlighted the vital role of the Benazir Income Support Program in uplifting women across Pakistan. He reiterated that the initiative for the pink scooties was championed by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, reflecting profound revolutionary changes for women’s empowerment. "Today is a remarkable occasion, as providing free scooties to women symbolizes a major revolution in their development," he stated.
Transparency in Distribution
Memon asserted the merit-based allocation of these scooties, claiming, "I swear that women have received these scooties based on merit. To date, 50,000 women have applied for driving licenses, and I hope to provide scooties to all once they obtain their licenses.”
Future Initiatives
During the event, he acknowledged the past challenges women faced in obtaining identification cards in remote areas, stating, "The Pakistan People's Party has been at the forefront of empowering women." He also announced the forthcoming launch of pink taxis specifically for women, ensuring a continued commitment to women’s mobility and independence.
Measures Against Misuse
Minister Memon addressed concerns regarding the potential misuse of pink scooties, indicating that street checks would be implemented. "Any male caught riding a pink scooty will have it confiscated," he stated firmly, reinforcing the program's integrity. He affirmed that the distribution initiative would persist, positioning Sindh as the only province providing free electric scooters to women.
