Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Azma Bokhari, has expressed grave concerns regarding the escalating incidents of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), asserting that the focus of the KP Chief Minister appears to be more on political pursuits than on maintaining law and order.

Urgent Call for Law and Order

In a statement released on Friday, September 25, Bokhari emphasized the alarming rise of terrorist activities in KP and criticized the provincial government's lack of response, particularly noting the absence of officials at the funeral of victims from a recent terrorist attack in Kohat. She urged the Chief Minister to redirect his efforts towards enhancing public safety and reinforcing institutions like the Counter Terrorism Department.

Bokhari remarked, "While Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may seem distant, news of terrorist incidents is becoming increasingly accessible. The provincial government must prioritize the safety of its citizens and their property."

Criticism of Political Distraction

In her remarks, Minister Bokhari also addressed the ongoing political activities of the KP leadership. She referred to a particular leader's nationwide travels, criticized as pointless due to what she termed a "zero" performance on critical issues. She called attention to recent investigations by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) that uncovered significant financial irregularities, suggesting that the political focus had shifted to securing the release of a prominent corruption suspect instead of addressing important governance issues. "If legal proceedings are needed for an accused, it is essential to approach the appropriate courts," she added.

Bokhari condemned a political party for what she described as their engagement in the "politics of disorder," questioning the veracity of their claims regarding peaceful protests while highlighting reports of potential violence, including the use of sticks fitted with nails. She warned that the state possesses the necessary tools to manage elements that threaten public order.

Progress in Punjab and Government Initiatives

Addressing achievements in her own province, Bokhari highlighted the proactive measures being taken by the Punjab government under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. She pointed out that significant strides were made in various sectors aimed at public welfare, including the introduction of electric buses to facilitate affordable transport and the provision of free travel for women, senior citizens, and students.

Commenting on the high costs of petroleum products, she urged citizens to transition to public transport as a sustainable solution. She stated, “Punjab is committed to providing better services and facilities to its residents.”

Further illustrating the government's commitment to public health, Bokhari announced the establishment of a cancer hospital in Multan, offering modern treatment options previously unavailable to residents who had to travel to Lahore for care. She assured that all patients, regardless of their financial circumstances, would receive medical attention at government hospitals that are being equipped with modern technology.

Conclusion: A Focus on Service

Minister Bokhari concluded by reiterating the Punjab government's dedication to serving the people and advancing developmental projects, emphasizing that their focus remains on addressing the needs of citizens rather than engaging in political conflict. “Our efforts are directed toward providing healthcare, enhancing transport systems, and promoting services that facilitate the lives of our citizens,” she said.
