Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the significance of a recent U.S. report validating Pakistan's military capabilities, specifically its success in downing Indian aircraft during the May conflict. Sharif made these remarks at a foundation-laying ceremony for a Danish School in Bagh, located in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, on November 20, 2025.
Pakistan's military superiority: Pakistan's Military Strength Acknowledged
During his address, Prime Minister Sharif stated that the report submitted to the U.S. Congress serves as formal recognition of Pakistan's military prowess. He articulated that the findings "stamped" Pakistan's position regarding the May hostilities, asserting, "India had received a stinging slap from Pakistan’s armed forces." Further demonstrating his confidence in the military, he remarked, "Allah Almighty has honoured Pakistan through the bravery of our soldiers."
The U.S. report acknowledged Pakistan's "military success over India" in the four-day conflict in May, highlighting the effective utilization of Chinese-made weapons against Indian forces, including advanced French Rafale jets. Sharif contended that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and the army compelled India to its knees in a matter of days, noting that former President Donald Trump had repeatedly commended Pakistan's military performance.
Educational Initiatives
Shifting his focus to education, PM Sharif discussed the transformative impact of Danish Schools across Pakistan. He noted that these institutions offer free education, accommodation, uniforms, and merit-based support. Originally launched in Punjab, the Danish School network is now set to expand nationwide, with the inauguration of the Bagh campus scheduled for March 23, 2026. He also announced plans for a Danish School in Forward Kahuta, asserting that the establishment of such educational institutions in Azad Jammu and Kashmir is nearing fruition.
Context of the Conflict
The Pakistan-India conflict escalated when India conducted missile strikes inside Pakistan on May 5 and 6, 2025, following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 fatalities. The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission's report outlined the strengthening defense collaboration between Islamabad and Beijing, noting that Pakistan employed contemporary Chinese military technology to enhance its operational advantage over India. This conflict marked the first deployment of China’s modern weapon systems in active hostilities, including the HQ-9 air-defense system, PL-15 air-to-air missiles, and J-10C fighter jets.
The report stated that Pakistan successfully downed seven Indian aircraft, including Rafales, and highlighted the broader implications for China's defense exports, as evidenced by an offer to supply Pakistan with additional advanced military equipment, including 40 J-35 fifth-generation fighter jets.
The intensity of the military exchanges led both nations to strike deeper into each other’s territories than at any point in the past five decades. The conflict, which saw the PAF neutralizing a range of Indian drones and aircraft, culminated on May 10 with a ceasefire agreement facilitated by the United States.
